11. >> right off the top a news alert out of virginia. the search is on for a man that attacked a teenage girl in her home. it started with a knock on the door yesterday afternoon. >> reporter: the victim tells police she opened her front door to a man who said he worked for a cable company and forced himself inside and attacked her. investigators are asking for help in this case. this is an electronic composite based on a description from the victim. she tells police he came to her home claiming to work for a local cable company and asking to speak with a person she didn't recognize. she couldn't help him and he left. 10 minutes later the man returned threatening the teen until she let him in deed. that's when he showed her what appeared to be a knife and sexually assaulted her. >> that's horrible. i feel for her. i feel for her family.

>> reporter: investigators say there was an adult home at the time but in the basement and didn't hear anything until it was too late. police have been canvassing the neighborhood. >> an officer came and knocked on my door and there was flyers and papers and letting me know there was an incident happened across the street. >> reporter: she has two teenagers and a school bus driver in the area. >> i just alert all the kid in the area to be careful and not to open the door to strangers. >> reporter: just a stone's throw from there the middle school sent students home with letters alerting parents. >> you have to stay in tune with what's going on and speak with your children and explain to them. it's best to explain why you're telling them not to do certain things. then they'll have a better understanding and be more aware as well. >> reporter: the suspect claimed to be a utility worker

he wasn't in a uniform. he was wearing a gray jacket, red shirt and dress shoes. he appeared to be in his 20s with a medium build. >> hopefully they'll get the person. we're very concerned about this situation right now. >> reporter: police say at one point during the attack the victim began to kick and scream and the man ran off. responding officers searched the area and couldn't track him down. if you have any information contact police. now the latest in the newtown, connecticut shooting. many students returned to class for the first time. also the commity continued the heartbreaking task of burying the young victims. jennifer davis is live in newtown tonight. how did this first day back to school go? >> reporter: you know, it was an interesting and painful day here yet again in newtown. what you notice is with all the traffic on these little tiny streets you saw hearses and

school buses. you saw funeral processions and students. that gives you a good sense of the two directions they're being pulled in as their in the depth of the grief and saying good-bye to these young children, but also trying to help the surviving children get to a routine. they had two more funerals today. a little boy b james who loves math and recess. a little girl jessica who asked santa for a new pair of cowgirl boots this year. all the students in the area that didn't go to sandy hook went to school. they did a lot of talking about friday and they were together and that seems to have comforted a lot of them. >> i can only imagine the heart ache this community is feeling. what else are they doing to sort of bring back a sense of normalcy? >> reporter: you know, you can still see it this evening. this is the biggest memorial in town. there are memorials all over but you can't walk through this one. if you're a journalist, first

responder without crying. while they're taking holiday decorations down all over town, they are up over here. someone put up a series of stockings with the names of the children on them and several christmas trees and people are bringing ornaments. when it was raining today it looked like an angel ornament was crying. there are piles of stuffed animals that any parent recognizes as having given one to their child. there's a barny and teddy bears and toys people have left under the tree as we learn about the children and the details of the things they loved there's gifts reflecting that under the tree. there are match boxcars and legos and dolls. as agonizing as it is to walk through there, it seems to bring people a sense of comfort to gather there together and cry together. >> jennifer davis reporting live for us from newtown, connecticut. the connecticut school shooting is sparking dialogue and action on the gun control

debate. dick's sporting food is temporarily halting the sale of all rifles. others are calling on schools to arm their teachers. something virginia governor says can't be rushed. >> i don't have any policy recommendations that i'm making on arming teachers or anything else at this point. i'm suggesting our school audits need to be looked at and find ways to implement them better and find out what the experts would recommend to protect our schools wetter. >> mark warner said he's rethinking his previous pro nra position. martin o'malley will introduce registration aimed at preventing mass shootings. last friday's shooting raises

undergoing a mental evaluation. another marathon session at the wilson building as d.c. leaders tried to tie up issues on speed cameras, campaign finance reform and tax on your water bill. the question tonight, will the mayor sign off on the legislation? >> reporter: let's first talk about what did not happen. they'll be no campaign finance reform after a year that's seen serious issues. an emergency bill to limit money orders to $25 was withdrawn. still the council did vote to hire more police officers and lower speed camera fines. in the end, the d.c. council took no action when it comes to campaign finance reform. there were hearings and a proposal from the mayor. but it all died when mary cha withdrew her last ditch effort.

>> i've come to understand other members are planning to attach multiple amendments that will sort of operate as a poise pill. >> reporter: she blamed council member tommy wells who wanted to add more to her bill knowing it would lead to a no vote. >> there's been hearings, everybody knows what it is. don't let the council hide. >> reporter: the council voted to fund new police officers through a city surplus. not as many as the mayor wants. they won't have the money to hire new officers with expected surplus. are they going to hurt the protection of folks in the city? >> i think they will. >> reporter: the most heated exchange came when marian barry called out white members n the council for not signing onto his exoffender bill. >> six white members out of

seven oppose it. how do you explain it that not being racially divided? >> reporter: offended david fired back. >> the notion that we disagree are somehow labeled as insensitive because we disagree is really as i said a part of the vanity of stock and trade of a long bankrupt public servant who has long ago failed to offer constructive solution for the problems that afflict this city. i have had it. >> reporter: the two continued to exchange word. the council did approve a measure that will set aside a special fund for those hit hard by the flooding over the summer in bloomingdale. the downside is everyone's water bill could go up about $0.30 a month. >> matt, thank you. now to the so-called fiscal

the tsa says they're safe. a recent report says passengers would have to be screened 17,000 every year to reach the limit. your commutes through d.c. will get faster. the mayor is raying the speed limit by about 5 miles per hour on parts of new york avenue, blatenburg's road, north cap and canal road. just a reminder only sections of the roads. you've got to watch the speed limits as they changed. it's a tradition for most presidents to hold an inauguration prayer service. sources say president obama's service will be january 22nd at the national cathedral. inauguration day is january 20th, but because it falls on a sunday, the public swearing in ceremony will be monday the 21st. it happens to be martin luther king, jr. day. that's the fox 5 top 5. >> thank you, will. not a bad day today.

you said it seems like we're on a roll. >> i think so. tomorrow is part of the roll. >> good. >> we're not 62 degrees tomorrow. we had a front come through and knocked the tchs down. we'll be in the 50s and typical is 40s. that's bonus territory right there. sort of like getting the third percent off on the sales. now we're going to have to pay full price for temperatures this weekend. reality check as we get colder by the time the weekend rolls around. perhaps many of you will welcome that since it's a bit of a sign of this holiday season. today's temperature well above average at 62. we had early morning showers. certainly a blustery wind most of the day. the breeze is better now and not back tomorrow. there might be a gust of 10 to 15 miles per hour. not 35 like we had today. upper 30s for dulles. we'll describe tonight as chilly and in the mid and upper 30s. the district is 46 degrees. we will see the temperatures

continue to drop overnight. you see moisture coming here and some of that turning into sleet or freezing rain up through western pennsylvania. that does not get in here tonight. we believe that will dry up or go to the north. maybe a little cloud cover comes in. while we're waiting for the clouds the clear skies will allow temperatures to drop. so it's high pressure that we'll be looking to build in tomorrow. it will be a nice day with a lot of sunshine and as the high gets closer the winds lighten up and it will be a pleasant afternoon with temperatures in the mid-50s. little different story for thursday. high pressure will slide out of the way and more potent storm system with an area of low pressure on it and a cold front will begin to approach. it will have showers with it. the bulk will be thursday night any time after 4, 5, 6:00 is when we'll start to see it come in. storm system itself goes well to our west. that means it's going to be a

warm system for us and we are going to see rain moving in here. i do think it will be a significant snow for the mountains. we consult the future cast. tomorrow it's a lot of sunshine. during the day thursday we have a little bit of cloud cover. some sun but notice as early as the noon hour that's west of pittsburgh, the moisture. we roll into 6:00 and the showers are coming in. by 11 heavy downpours and a rumble of thunder. then the storm system pulls on up and look at the snow. we continue to see in the mountains. that will continue into saturday and we have winter storm watches for thursday night through saturday for the mountains. maybe blizzard like conditions or near blizzard with six inches of snow or more expected. the ski resorts will be happy to see that. your accuweather 7-day forecast, two more days in the 50s and a
